Free-Cutting Brass
CW614N, CuZn39Pb3
CW614N, designated CuZn39Pb3, is one of the most widely used brass alloys for machining. The alloy contains approximately 3% lead, which significantly improves its machinability, allowing for high-speed cutting, excellent chip breaking, and long tool life. This makes CW614N a preferred choice for precision-turned components produced in large volumes.
Common applications include screws, bolts, nuts, gears, and a wide range of fittings, as well as components used in electrical connectors and mechanical assemblies. Thanks to its consistent machining performance, CW614N is a benchmark alloy in the free-cutting brass category.
However, the alloy is not dezincification-resistant and should therefore not be used in environments where components are exposed to aggressive water or high corrosion risk.
